LOGGER history

In end of the 80:s I start develop a program for logging
our national monthly contest on 144 MHz and up. It started
on expensive HP300 BASIC computer I used at work. Then came
the PC so time to do something on this platform instead of
the expensive HP computer. With TurboC 1.0 I started the
development and have since then only upgraded to BorlandC
3.1.

In August 1992 I used released LOGGER version 0.0 (!). It
looked very similar to the famous short-wave contest
program CT at that time. During the development there have
been versions 0.10, 0.11, 0.20, 0.20x, 0.30, 0.31 and 0.32.
The latest version have been around many years now, most
because lack of free time to develop the program further.

Since February 1998 I have started to develop the program
again to my need. Some friends have also used the program
and helped me a lot with finding all bugs and bad functions
in the program. They also helped to developed new features
like LoggerNet into the program. I hope that this new
version of LOGGER will help some of you with logging all
you radioactivity.

Why the silly and anonymous name LOGGER ? Well it just got
the name when I start writing the code and I have not seen
any need to change it. There are many other programs also
with the same name but I don't have any better name and all
my friends call it LOGGER so I will keep the name.

Finally I will say that LOGGER is a FREEWARE but don't
change the code and if copy it to other users copy all you
got from me to them.

Install DOS/Windows

The easy way is to download the exe-file of LOGGER from
http://welcome.to/logger. Save the file somewhere on the
harddisc.

To install LOGGER create a directory called for example
LOGGER somewhere on you harddisc. Copy then the exe-file
from the downloaded place or disket to this directory.

Move into the LOGGER directory. You shall now have the
exe-file there. Run this file and all files will be
extrated from this package.

If you ar updating a previous version of LOGGER you will
get questions if you want to overwrite existing file.
Answer then always Y (yes) to all these questions.

Now the installation is finnished and you shall have a
logger.exe file which is the LOGGER program.

Install Linux

LOGGER has been tested and is working fine on Linux using the
dosemu program. This part will give hints how to get LOGGER
running on Linux with installation of dosemu, MS-DOS and
LOGGER. You can also have internet connection in LOGGER using
loggerTelnetLinux program.

Install dosemu
--------------
If you installation of Linux don't have the dosemu or xdosemu
programs you need to install them. I prefere to download
latest version of dosemu from there website (www.dosemu.org)
and compile/install from sorcecode.

- Download the latest developer releases for dosemu from
  there site. In my case it were dosemu-1.1.4.tgz.
- I then unpack and install the program with following
  commands. For more details see dosemu documentation.
  $ tar xzvf dosemu-1.1.4.tgz (unpack program)
    ...
  $ cd dosemu-1.1.4             (move to..)
    ...
  $ make                        (make program)
    ...
  $ su root (change to root)
    ...
  $ make install                (do installation)
    ...
  $ exit                        (exit root mode)
  $ cd ..
  $ rmdir dosemu-1.1.4 -r -f    (remove source code)
- You shall now have the commands dosemu and xdosemu
  to start the dos emulation program. Try the xdosemu
  and you will get a x-console starting DOS. It will
  fail because it will not find any installation of DOS.

Install MS-DOS or similar
-------------------------
When the dosemu program seem to work you will need a
installation of DOS on the machine that dosemu can boot.
There is many DOS to install and dosemu supports Freedos
(www.freedos.org) but you can also install you old MS-DOS
here. For Freedos see there site for more information.
I will here show an easy installation of MS-DOS.
- First we need to create a directory tree in the your
  home directoy,
  $ cd
  $ mkdir dosemu
  $ cd dosemu
  $ mkdir msdos
  $cd msdos
- You now need some files from the MS-DOS installation
  disc or from a MS-DOS machine. From these you need to
  copy some files into the created msdos directory. Below
  show copy of files from the installation disc 1 of
  MS-DOS 6.22.
  $ mount /mnt/floppy
  $ cp /mnt/floppy/io.sys ~/dosemu/msdos/.
  $ cp /mnt/floppy/msdos.sys ~/dosemu/msdos/.
  $ cp /mnt/floppy/command.com ~/dosemu/msdos/.
  $ umount /mnt/floppy
- Create som simple autoexec.bat files in the
  msdos directory.

  @echo off
  prompt $p$g
  path c:\

- A simple config.sys files in the msdos directory.

  buffers=15,0
  files=30

- You shall after installing and starting xdosemu have
  a file .dosemurc in you home directory. You shall now
  edit on line in this file. There shall be i line staring
  with $_hdimage. Below show two lines in this file. The
  first line is the original line. Add a # character in
  the begining of this line. Then add the second line.
  Note that ulf will be the name of you home directory.

  #$_hdimage = "home/ulf/dosemu/freedos"
  $_hdimage = "home/ulf/dosemu/msdos"

- Hopefully you shall now be able to startup the MS-DOS
  using xdosemu command. At the DOS-promt you can use the
  normal DOS commands as dir, mkdir, cd. Not that not all
  DOS commands is valid because we have not installed the
  complete MS-DOS. This is not needed to run LOGGER.

Install LOGGER
--------------
The installation of LOGGER is very easy if you download
the *.exe file of LOGGER. Download latest LOGGER version
and copy/move it to the msdos directory. Start xdosemu and
do following command to install LOGGER.

c:\> mkdir logger
c:\> cd logger
c:\> ..\log117.exe
     LOGGER files will be installed...
c:\> logger

Save it to the typed filename in directory INFO\CALLFILE.

Terminal
========
This is the same packet radio terminal window used inside
the LOGGER program. Added here is the upload function of
contest text files via easy selection menu.

Open an easy way to send L_LOGG.TXT to contest manager and
send L_COMM.TXT as bulletin to the contest community.

You type sb vhf@sm ; command to BBS
           NAC result 144 MHz ; write subject
Push PgUp select L_COMM.TXT ; upload file
You type /EX ; end bulletin

Observe to use handshake for safe upload function.

Terminal setup
==============
To use LOGGER with packet radio you need to setup a
terminal connection with you TNC via a serial line
(COM-port). Here you will get a setup menu for this.

    Terminal for......... Not used
    Communication setup
    Edit key memory
    Keep alive........... NO
    Term Serv Addr....... 0

Terminal for
------------
Here you can setup what kind of function you want with your
connection :

Not used......... disconnect the serial line.
Terminal......... used only as an normal terminal
                  connected to the TNC
LOGGER Net....... add functions to exchange data with other
                  contest operators.
                  See more information in separate chapter.
DX-Cluster/Spider add functions to send/receive DX message.
                  See more information in separate chapter.
                  There are two types. The old DX-Cluster
                  software and the newer DX-spider software
DX-Cluster/L-Net. get DX-cluster and LOGGER Net function.
DX-Spider/L-Net.. get DX-spider and LOGGER Net function.
                  Check file internal\dxspider.txt for
                  more information regarding using L_NET
                  together with DX-spider.

Communication setup
-------------------
To setup parameters for the communication port.

    Port         select COM1/COM2/FILE/CI-BUS.
    Speed        select 1200, 2400, 4800 or 9600 Bits.
    Bits         select 5, 6, 7 or 8 bit.
    Parity select No, Odd or Even parity.
    Stop bits select 1 or 2 bit.
    Handshake select Not used or Xon/Xoff.
    EOL select CR (when using COM1/2)
                        CRLF (when using FILE)
    CI address select CI-BUS address for the terminal
                        server on the ICOM-BUS.
                        (decimal number range 2-240).

You can use same COM-port for this use and CW keyer!
Because of this H/W handshake is not valid.

When selecting CI-BUS port there is a need to start
LOGGER with the option -CIx:y. The CI address must also
be set to correct address for the terminal server and
a terminal server of some kind must be connected to the
ICOM bus.

Check you TNC for information and also information how to
connect the TNC port with the selected COM-port.

The handshake is only used to send data from computer to
packet radio system TNC. When using handshake the computer
maybe stop sending data to the TNC because the TNC buffer
is full. This will be indicated with a text box on the
screens bottom line "DATA HOLD". It's possible to exit the
"DATA HOLD" with "CTRL-C". Character used for Xon/Xoff is
0x11 and 0x13.

--- Observe you need to set correct EOL setting
# When using serial connection to TNC the setting shall
  be "CR". You can use "CRLF" but check that the TNC will
  work with it. Maybe you need to set "LFIgnore ON".
# When using FILE the setting shall be "CRLF".

For serial connection pin-out, see COM-port pins under
section key connection.

Edit key memory
---------------
In all modes you will always be able to pick up a terminal
window (see below). In this window you can talk directly
with the TNC and it's connection. To seed up some commands
you can store them in one of 12 memories and select them
with the F1 to F12 key in the terminal window.

Here you can edit the information in each memory.

Keep alive
----------
Over some connections (GPRS-phone) it seem that the
connection will abort if no data is send in either
direction for some time. Therefore the program will send
an empty line every 5 minute if keep alive is ON if no
other data is sent over the connection.

Term Serv Addr
--------------
If you have more LOGGER computers using the same ICOM
CI-BUS (see CI bus setup) you can have one LOGGER program
conneted to the DX-cluster/spider node. This LOGGER node
can then be a terminal server for other LOGGER programs
over the CI-BUS.

To enable this function you need to enter a valid and unic
address for the terminal server in the network in decimal
form at "Term Serv Addr" line. If you set it to zero (0)
then the server is disabled.

All the other LOGGER program shall use CI-BUS for
communication with this server. You must also set the same
network address in the setup (see above about terminal
setup).

Change band etc

In default configuration of LOGGER you can only use
following bands in the program (depending on contest
configuration file) :

low bands    : 50, 144 ,432 MHz.
medium bands : 1.3, 2.4, 3.4, 5.7, 10 and 24 GHz.
high bands   : 47, 76, 120, 144 and 244 GHz.

You can change which band to use via edit of the file
"internal\bandinfo.txt". Read the information in the file
and always have a backup of it if LOGGER don't like you
new configuration.

In the file there is information for some shortwave bands
and 70, 220, 900 MHz band but they have been remarked
with * and therefore not used. To open any of this bands
you just need to take the * away.

In this file there is also two lines setting the selection
of communication/propagation modes for use in LOGGER.

Observe!
========
This setting will only be valid when edit template files
and NOT on settings for already started contest files.

Add new bands or delete bands from a contest configuration
file shalle be done using the edit contest file function in
the program. When selecting band there is a possibility to
insert (Ins) and delete (Del) bands.

In the stations template file you set the LOG directory.
Normally it will be set to same as your callsign. Under
this directory you contestfiles will be saved under the
date set to the contest. Above we have a LOG directory
SM0LCB.LOG and under it to contest directories 19980101.LOG
and 19980201.LOG.

In each contest log directory SM0LCB.LOG\19980101.LOG\
there will be a contest setting file holding all data from
the three template files used to start the contest.

OBSERVE that changing information in a template file will
NOT change the the setting for created contest files. Only
new contest files will take this new information.

OBSERVE also that a change in a contest setting is NOT
reflected back to the used template files !

LOGGER usage

Enter a QSO

Depending on your contest setup you will need to enter
following information for each complete QSO :
- Callsign, with at least 3 character (least one number).
- Received and send report for the QSO.
- If needed the received QSO serial number.
- If needed the received QSO message option.
- If needed the received stations locator.

You must enter each information in right field. You can
move between the fields for input of information with the
key "SPACEBAR". When using the function keys (see list
below) you can easy jump between the fields and also erase
the entered information if needed.

If you are using the LOGGER key function you normally will
have this functions as first choices for the F-keys so you
will need to use ALT-x key selection, see "Functions keys".

You can edit a field with the :
- Right/left arrow keys.
- BACKSPACE and DELETE.
- ALT-W which will clear the input field.

When you have enter information about the QSO you save it
with the ENTER key. If any field missing information or is
incorrect you will get message about it and can then easy
correct if. You can overrun this warning and save it as it
is with the ENTER key.

Time for the QSO will be set when :
- you enter a received report.
- changing time with (ALT-)F1.
- if no time when pressing ENTER, time will be set.

If for some reason the QSO isn't complete you can save it
as an NOT COMPLET QSO with CRTL-ENTER. It will get a note
as not complete and not been used in the point calculation.
In the QSO menu you find how to change if back if needed.

During the contest you can edit logged QSO :
UP/DOWN ARROW : move one QSO up or down in the list.
PAGE UP/DOWN : move one page of QSO up or down in the list
HOME : move to the first QSO in the list.
END : EXIT edit and move to the end of the list.

Find menu

Finding information is always hard. Hope some of the
following functions will help you finding information
stored within LOGGER.

Auto Find
=========
Will search the loaded callsign-file for data written in
QSO callsign-box when you type it in. To load callsign-file
see chapter about Information menu.

The entered information will be match against call and
the found information is listed in the large window. If
there are not so many hits during search the information
will be printed with a letter and call/locator. With this
letter you can easily move the callsign/locator from the
list to the current QSO line, example :

    SHIFT-A ,move call/locator from position 'A' in list

How search is done you will find in following text for each
type of search call/locator.

Mode of find
------------
Then you want to activating auto find you must select on
which level the auto find will work. The levels are :

Off        Auto find switched off.

All band Search for all call/locator in callist.
           Independent of band information.

           Below search use band information in callist
           and band information for current contest log.

Used band Used band is band active for logging QSO but
           don't used in contest. In this mode auto find
           will only search for call/locator stations
           worked on any used band in callist.

Act band Active band in band in contest. In this mode
           auto find will only search for call/locator
           stations worked on any active band in callist.

Cur band Current band is the band you have selected for
           the current QSO entry. In this mode auto find
           will only search for call/locator stations
           worked on the selected current band.

Mark worked/active call
=======================
When search is done on callsign file data the program
automatically notes stations already worked on the same
band, with a red background colour.

When you run a multiband contest this red will may not fill
the whole callsign in the list. The idea behind this is
that the program breaks up the length of the callsign in
band slices, for example running 50, 144 and 432 MHz will
give

    SM0LCB____
    ***----------  50 MHz indication
       ***------- 144 MHz indication
          ***---- 432 MHz indication

Mark worked ON
--------------
If you have worked the station on another band then the
current band, you will get an indication in green on the
callsign.

Mark active ON
--------------
If there is information in the callsign file that the
station in the search display is active on another band and
not yet worked on this band, you will get an indication in
blue on the callsign

Toggle band find.. [Ctrl-A]
===========================
This feature only works if you have selected auto find mode
USED, ACT or CUR. The normal search will be done according
to your selection (see above). You may try the other search
modes by using this function. For each selection a serach
will be done according to USED, ACT or CUR.

If you select mod CUR and use this function you will get
search with mode ACT, USED, ALL and back to CUR. Indication
of mode you find in status line. Observe the program may
jump over some mode if they don't give any new information
or don't have any information.

Toggle order is :

In USED mode ALL and back to USED.
In ACT mode USED, ALL and bank to ACT.
In CUR mode ACT, USED, ALL and bank to ACT.

Toggle call/loc... [Ctrl-X]
===========================
Enter text in callsign field and use this function.
The search will be done against call or locator.
Toggle the search between call/locator using this function.

With character '.' you can help search to find you
information, example :

Call toggle search,
  KA        ,will find SM0KAK, KA2GAL
  0K        ,will find SM0KAK, F0KAT
  S.KA      ,will find SM0KAK but not KA2GAL, F0KAT

  The "S." tells that the call must start with an 'S'.

Locator toggle search,
  20        ,will find JO20AK, KO20AK, KP20VK
  AK ,will find JO20AK, KO20AK but not KP20VK
  J.AK      ,will find JO20AK but not KO20AK, KP20VK

  The "J." tells that the locator must start with an 'J'.

Direction
=========
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box and
match it with data calculated from locator information in
callsign-file. This makes it possible to find
direction/distance of stations from your current locator.

The syntax to do search is as shown below :

Only direction, after '.' number < 90
---------------------------------------------

    123 ,All calls in 123 degrees +-10 degrees.
    123.3   ,All calls in 123 degrees +- 3 degrees.
    123.30 ,All calls in 123 degrees +-30 degrees.

Direction and distance, after '.' number > 90
---------------------------------------------

    123.150 ,All calls in 123 degrees +-10 degrees and
             with distance > 150 km.
    123.600 ,All calls in 123 degrees +-10 degrees and
             with distance > 600 km.

Beacon
======
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box and
match it with data in the beacon file. The beacon file is a
text file in directory INFO called "BEACON.TXT"

The search will be done on frequency, call and locator data
for each beacon in the file.

Selecting a line in the list and pressing ENTER will move
call/frequency information from this DX spot into current
QSO. It will also do a call lookup in you callfile and
display matching information. If you use station control
you may after the search then set the stations frequency
via ALT-2/7.

Geographic
==========
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box and
match it with data in the geographical file. This file is a
text file in directory INFO called "GEOGRA.TXT"

The search will be done on name data for each location in
the file.

Logbook
=======
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box
and match it with data in LOGGERS year log files for the
callsign you currently are using.

The search will be done on date/call in selected year log
file.

Note information
================
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box
and match it with data in LOGGERS note files for the
callsign you currently are using.

The search will be done on date/call(title) in selected
year note file. If more than one note matches there will be
a selection box with the title of each note.

More information about note files is in the chapter
Information menu.

Call information
================
Search with information taken from QSO callsign-box and
match it with information from the DXCC file.

The DXCC file is the same as IARU.CTY used by the well
known program CT (contest program). A new version of this
can easily be used in logger. Just copy it to the INFO
directory with the name DXCC.TXT. The program will then
update the DXCC.LOG file next time you start up LOGGER.

This menu will only be accessible if you under the LOGGER
menu have set the voice keyer on. Some chooses will only
be valid with SB16 or DVK voice keyer.

Delay time
==========
The time delay/dwell time for the PTT line before/after the
voice messages is transmitted in ms.

CQ pause
========
The time that the program wait to send a CQ message again
after it have ended (listening time).

Maximum of 25 CQ messages will be sent. After that the
operator must start the message if he still want to send
it.

CQ on #x
========
Set if this message will have the CQ function with
automatic restart after CQ pause time (see above).

Length of #x    (only DVK)
============
To use CQ function with DVK and the have control from the
program the program need to now how the time of each voice
message memory in the DVK. This to control PTT and set
correct pause time.

PTT line port   (only SB16)
=============
Set the port on which the PTT line will be connected. This
chooies is only valid if NOT using the CW keyer funktion.

When using the CW keyer the voice keyer will use the same
port as the CW keyer, see key menu.

For connection information of PPT line se the CW keyer.

Setup voice keyer

With "Voice keyer" you can send voice messages from LOGGER
via a Sound Blaster SB16 sound card. Observe ONLY this card
is supported in this version of LOGGER.

Start voice key
===============
To start voice keyer open the Logger menu and set Voice
Keyer ON. The program tries to find a Sound Blaster SB16
card on you system. If it finds one you will be able to
send voice messages, se below.

If the computer NOT finds a Sound Blaster SB16 card it
maybe will get hanged up. You when need to restart the
computer and start LOGGER with option "logger -v" to be
sure the program will start without the voice keyer.

Send voice messages
===================
You can have 4 voice messages and you start sending one of
the messages with the keys

  SHIFT-F1  voice message #1
  SHIFT-F2  voice message #2
  SHIFT-F3  voice message #3
  SHIFT-F4  voice message #4
  ESC      interrupt message

Where to store messages
=======================
All voice messages must be stored in directory USERS with
names as the user setting (see Logger menu) plus memory
number. In the example below the part "SM0LCB" comes from
the user name.

 Example    SM0LCB_1.WAV

The part "_1" indicates message number 1. Too use all
messages you must create 4 files "_1", "_2", "_3" and "_4".

How to create messages
======================
Create files using a nice recording program for your
computer and store it as wave files. Observe it MUST be 8
bits and not 16 bits code. The sample rate of 11 kHz is
good for this purpose

  File type : Wave  (WAV)
  Bits      : 8
  Sample    : 11 kHz

Key menu

Important information regarding the use of CW keyer. You
will get the following information when restarting LOGGER
after CW keyer crash. Note it's only designed to go under
pure MS-DOS (not MS-DOS window in windows 95/98...).

---Start message-------------------------------------------

Last startup of CW keyer failed
-------------------------------
LOGGER has detected that the last startup of CW keyer
didn't work.

Why CW keyer can fail
---------------------
The LOGGER CW keyer is coded to be running under
pure MS-DOS, for example:

- Under old classic MS-DOS.
- Under Windows 95/98 MS-DOS mode.
  (No windows started).

Force CW keyer start
--------------------
The LOGGER program try to detect the current
MS-DOS/Windows MS-DOS mode and only start up CW keyer
then this seem to be OK.

You can override this by forcing LOGGER to start
CW keyer when starting LOGGER at DOS-prompt,

LOGGER -C

---End message---------------------------------------------

In the key memory you can set a pause with %P command. This
command will use the time set here to pause the
transmission and open the receiver.

It will not change pause time on a memory all ready
running.

Audio
=====
Switch ON/OFF the computer side-tone.

Reverse
=======
Will reverse the keyer short/long side if you are more used
to that.

Audio tone
==========
Changes the frequency of the keyed side-tone (300-2000 Hz).

Delay time
==========
Set the time between activating the PPT and the first key
signal on the KEY line. There will be no delay of keyed
characters, so start of keyed of characters will be lost if
using long delay time. Try to always send a dash before
keying text with long delay time.

Time can be in interval 0 - 9999 ms.

Dwell time
==========
Set the time the PPT line will be active after the last
activity on the KEY line (PTT hold time).

Time can be in interval 0 - 9999 ms.

Key connection

It's possible to connect the LOGGER key function to one of
the following interfaces on a computer

LPT1/2 works normally without any problems.
          But for some computers it doesn't, so use COM.

COM1/2 With COM-port you always need a external power
          to the keyer. For the COM1/2 version there
          will always flow some current (1-2 mA).

COM1i/2i Same as COM1/2 except that current will only flow
          during manual keying.

Harmonized key/ptt connection pins with other programs.
Will even work with paddle input as for TR LOG program.

With opto switch
================
Using a PC815 opto switch will give a quick and nice
working interface between the computer and the station.
You don't need to connect the grounds together and
therefore will get less noise from the computer to the
station.

Using strobe as ground will give no keying during PC
startup and therefore nice to use. It will work fine with
ground pin also (18-25).

Relay switch
============
Some stations can't use transistor driven output so maybe a
relay will work well. Select a good and not to big relay.

                        X------------ +12V (?)

What components
===============
For transistor any small NPN will do the work.
- BC107, BC238, BC546, 2N2222, 2N3704...

Opto switch maybe
- PC714/Sha or PC715/Sha.
- PC827/Lit or PC829/Sha (dual opto switch).

Key memory programming

There are many commands to use when edit a key memory if
you want to do some nice things. But of course you don't
need to use them.

Ending a memory
===============
Always end a memory with one of following characters !

  < Jump to beginning of text in memory, CQ loop.
  >   End of text.

Insert QSO information
======================
Get QSO information from the current active QSO line into
the transmitted text :

 %MC   insert my callsign.
 %ML   insert my locator.
 %MR insert my report FROM the other station.
 %MN insert my QSO serial number FROM the other station.
 %C insert the callsign of the other station.
 %L insert the locator of the other station.
 %R insert the report TO the other station.
 %N insert the QSO serial number TO the other station.

Special commandos
==================
 %P insert a pause of x seconds (menu setup), for CQ.
 %E insert text from the "end memory" memory.
       Set this to "BK" and other memory can call it.
       Easy to change the ending of transmission to "KKK".

Flow control
============
 %=1[HELLO] If last transmitted memory was 1 then
             send "HELLO".
 %!1[HELLO] If last transmitted memory not was 1 then
             send "HELLO".

If memory 1 have following text

 "%!1[RST] %R"

First press on memory 1-transmit key will give ; "RST 599"
Next press on the memory 1-transmit key gives ; " 599"

By pressing memory key 1, 5 times will give :
"RST 599 599 599 599 599"

Memory setting
==============
Example of memory settings:

Memory  1: "CQ CQ CQ %MC %MC %MC BK %P <"  ,CQ with pause.
Memory  2: "QRZ %C ??? %E"                 ,QRZ with call
Memory  3: "%C ??? %E"                     ,call ???
Memory 4: "%!4[%C DE ]%MC %E" ,call de my call
Memory  5: "%=4[HEJ ]%!5[RST ]%R %E"       ,RST 559 559...
Memory  6: "%!6[LOC ]%ML %E"               ,LOC JO...
Memory 7: "RRR %E" ,RRR RRR...
Memory  8: "%!8[NAME ]ULF %E"              ,NAME ULF...
Memory 9: "RST??? %E" ,RST??? RST??...
Memory 10: "LOC??? %E" ,LOC??? LOC??...
Mem end  : "BK"

Here how to answer a call if you entered callsign and
report and use the above memory setting. Press the

Information menu

You always need information about callsign, locators, phone
number, sked, beacon so get some help from LOGGER.

Use call file
=============
Here you set the name of the callsign file to be used. This
file hold for each callsign :
- Used locator.
- Date of last QSO.
- Number of QSO with this callsign.
- Bands you have worked him on.

This information's is updated when you save a new QSO so
new calls are added or updated. Information in this file is
used in many of the find functions under the Find menu.

This files is normal text files find in the INFO\CALLFILE
directory with the suffix *.TXT.

SELECT/EDIT/ADD data in callist
-------------------------------
When searching the callist you will get them listed with
a letter in the search window. With this letter you can
easy move the call/locator information to the current qso
line by pressing SHIFT-<letter>.

If you want to edit the information for a call in the
callist when first search for it. When you got a letter
for it select edit of it with a SHIFT-CTRL-<letter> press.

If you want to add a call without log it into the log then
just press SHIFT-CTRL-SPACE and enter the information.

The edit window will look like,

    DELETE IT !

Note add [Ctrl-V]
=================
Write a note about something during contest. All notes are
saved in a year note file under you callsign directory.
The name of the file is NOTEyyyy.TXT (NOTE1998.TXT).

Each note have a title line composed of date, time and
a title. Normally if you select this from a QSO with date
time and callsign this will be taken as the title. If
not the current date and time and your entered title will
be used.

The note text is 10 lines of 40 characters.

Following functions for edit is implemented,
Insert mode is default. Can be changed via INS key.
Delete current line with key CTRL-Y.
Move between words with CTRL -> and CTRL <- keys.

with the suffix "TXT". With this function you can view the
file from the program.

There are two example files with the program. Study them to
see who you can do your own files.

Statistics view
===============
There is a lot of information in LOGGER and via statistic
view you can view some of them. For each selection of the
menu function you will toggle trough different views. More
convenient is it maybe to us the shortcut via CTRL-W.

Distance/Direction view
-----------------------
Will view the number of previously worked stations (from
callist) in column "Wrk". In the column "Log" you see the
number of stations in your current open log and the %
column say the ration between them.

Top list view

Will view the top list for distance of worked QSO in log
for the current band. The list will show the 12 best QSO.

Locator list view
-----------------
Will view all worked locators in the log for the current
band. It will also show the number of QSO for each locator.

DXCC list view
--------------
Will view all worked DXCC in the log for the current band.
It will also show the number of QSO for each DXCC.

Heard station list view
-----------------------
Will view all station logged as "heard" in the log.
It will also show the time when the station were logged.
Mark a station as heard by setting Rx RST to "H".

SM/OH area list view
--------------------
Will view a summary of worked SM/OH station according to
the area number. Nice to have for all SM-station...

Statistics setup
================
There is some setting for the statistic views with can be
changed via this menu function.

Back time
---------
In callist there is a date for last QSO with each station
in the list. With back time you set how many month back
from current date you must have worked the station. If the
stations is not worked during this back time it will not be
in the statistic information.

# of QSO
--------
In callist there is a counter incremented for each QSO with
that station (call). Via this setting you can set the
minimum number of QSO to be viewed in the statistics. I
good way of take away stations normally not active or very
rare stations worked during very good conditions.

View sun/moon position
======================
This selection will toggle the presentation of sun/moon
position in a small window in upper/right corner. The
position is calculated from the station locator information
(converted to lat/long information). The information is
updated every 60 seconds and displayed time MUST be in UTC.

View sun/moon rise/set
======================
With this function you can easy check when sun/moon will
rise/set at current location. Enter date for calculation
as YYYYMMDD. Arrow up is rise and arrow down is set times.

If you want a better tool for predicting sun/moon please
download VK3UM EME planner (a very nice program).

P-radio menu

Why not use packet radio to exchange information will other
stations in the contest? Why hold all for you self? Give
more station the information and we can create more
activity on our bands....

Help yourself and other via packet radio connections in
LOGGER.

In this part of the help text we will look how to setup a
serial terminal to a TNC for packet radio connection.

Terminal setup
==============
To use LOGGER with packet radio you need to setup a
terminal connection with you TNC via a serial line
(COM-port). Here you will get a setup menu for this.

    Terminal for......... Not used
    Communication setup
    Edit key memory
    Keep alive........... NO
    Term Serv Addr....... 0

Terminal for
------------
Here you can setup what kind of function you want with your
connection :

Not used......... disconnect the serial line.
Terminal......... used only as an normal terminal
                  connected to the TNC
LOGGER Net....... add functions to exchange data with other
                  contest operators.
                  See more information in separate chapter.
DX-Cluster/Spider add functions to send/receive DX message.
                  See more information in separate chapter.
                  There are two types. The old DX-Cluster
                  software and the newer DX-spider software
DX-Cluster/L-Net. get DX-cluster and LOGGER Net function.
DX-Spider/L-Net.. get DX-spider and LOGGER Net function.
                  Check file internal\dxspider.txt for
                  more information regarding using L_NET
                  together with DX-spider.

Communication setup
-------------------
To setup parameters for the communication port.

    Port         select COM1/COM2/COM3/COM4/FILE/CI-BUS.
    EOL select CR (when using COM1/2/3/4)

You must also set the same
network address in the setup (see above about terminal
setup).
Terminal window [Ctrl-T]
========================
When you have selected a packet radio function and the
COM-port is connected to the TNC this window is the
interface between you and the TNC.

You have command memory in F1 - F12, se above information.

If you are using the window with a FBB BBS it's good to set
numbers of lines in the window to 15 on the BBS with the
command "OP 15" (I hope).

When connection via FILE set page to 14 lines with the
command on you system. For DX-spider use "set/page 14".

Setup TNC connection

This will be a short information what to set in the TNC and
how to connect a BBS/DX cluster. It's not a complete book !

Setup TNC
=========
Normally you only need to set following parameters in the
TNC for good operation with LOGGER:

MY [callsign]
-------------
Will set the TNC callsign to my callsign, example:

  cmd: MY SM0LCB

8 bits data
===========
LOGGER is using 8bit characters (windows charater) and
you shall have follwing settings in the TNC

  cmd: 8bitconv ON
  cmd: AWlen 8

EOL charater (CRLF or CR setting)
=================================
Normally a TNC want EOL setting to be only CR.
But you can use CRLF but when you may need to set

  cmd: LFIgnore ON

ECHO setting
=============
You should use echo off if running LOGGERNET.

  cmd: Echo OFF

STR [character]
---------------
In LOGGER contest text files there is a character '|'.
In the TNC there is a possibility for multi streams and
the default character for switching between streams is '|'.
To be able to upload LOGGER contest text files you must
change this character to another for example '~'.

To change stream charater to '~' (hex value $7E):

  cmd: STR $7E

Default character '|' have hex value of $7C.

CONNECT BBS/DX
==============
To connect a BBS/DX cluster use the command 'c' and the
callsing of the BBS/DX cluster, example :

  cmd: C SK0CT

Exit the BBS/DX cluster with the command 'bye'.

CONVERS MODE
============
To use LOGGER NET you must enter a convers mode on the
BBS/DX cluster.

FBB BBS
-------
  Enter convers mode : C
  Exit  convers mode : .q

DX-cluster
----------
  Enter convers mode : CONFER
  Exit  convers mode : /EX

DX-spider
---------
  There is no convers mode in DX-spider. You can use
  local announsment or the join/chat/leave groupe
  functions in DX-spider.

  The selection is done in "internal\dxspider.txt".
  Default is local announsment.

Setup Redirect COM port connection

From version 1.21 of LOGGER which support COM1 - COM4 there
is a possibility easy use COM port Redirector function in
Windows to enable DX cluster connection.

For more information about this see a separate page at
the LOGGER site describing how to install and setup the
COM port redirect software.

Too use the COM port redirector function easy it can be
be nice to enable the automatic login to the DX cluster.
To enable that use the -l option, see starting LOGGER.

Setup FILE connection

From version 1.17 of LOGGER there is a possibility to have
direct internet connection from the LOGGER program to for
example a DX-spider node on the internet.

To be able to establish such connection between LOGGER and
internet you need to run LOGGER in a DOS-BOX under Windos.
You will also need a version of loggerTelnetWin32 program
which can be downloaded on LOGGER's homepage.

The following steps shall help you establish LOGGER to
internet connection.

 1: Install LOGGER version 1.17 or newer.

 2: Download and install loggerTelnetWin32 application in
    the LOGGER directory (the directory there LOGGER.EXE
    will be).

 3: Start LOGGER and select "LOGGER->Terminal Setup"
    - Set "Terminal for... Terminal"
    - Set under "Communication setup"
      - Port.... FILE
      - EOL..... CRLF

 4: Exit the setup and select "Logger->Terminal"
    Will bring up a terminal with in/ouput windows.

 5: Start the loggerTelnetWin32 application.

 6: Connect you computer to internet...

 7: Select on loggerTelnetWin32 "Program->Connection"
    Enter the connection server name and portnumber.
    Press enter and the program will connect that selected
    server ant print out any text in it's display window.

    Address:
    The name of the server to connect or the IP-address
    if you know it.

    Port:
    The port number to cennet at the server (usally 8000).

    Login:
    If you enter your callsign here the program will when
    automaticlly login using it when it receive a "login"
    text. It the connection go done it will retyr to
    connect the server with 10 secones interval.

    Multi-op:
    Only used when using multi operator station setup
    (starting LOGGER with -f option). Enter the samt
    directory as used in the -f option without ending
    backslach character. All LOGGER stations will then
    use on connection to internet.

    Some nodes in Sweden are :
    server sk3w.shacknet.nu    port 8000   SK3W-6
           sk3gw.shacknet.nu        8000   SK3GW-6
           cluster.sk4bw.net        8000   SM4ONW-7
           sm7gvf.dyndns.org        8000   SM7GVF-6
           130.237.41.41            8000   SK0BU-5

 8: Hopefully this message will then also show up on the
    LOGGER terminal input window. Normally it will end
    with a "login" text.

 9: In the LOGGER terminal you may now enter the login
    name, usally you callsign, and press enter. Now
    you shall able to use the nodes commands etc.

    Setting on DX-spider
    - set/nobell    no bell output from DX-spider
    - set/noecho    no echo output from DX-spider
    - set/page 14   14 lines per page

10: Exit the connection with bye command in LOGGER terminal
    and then exit the loggerTelnetWin32 program.

For using DX-cluster/DX-spider functions in LOGGER see other
parts of this documentation.

For using LOGGERNET see other parts of this documentation.

Setup for LOGGERNET

Use these setting in TNC/DX-cluster/DX-spider when you
want to use LOGGERNET.

TNC settings
============

No TNC echo............... "cmd: Echo OFF"
Disable screen length..... "cmd: Screenlen 0"

DX-spider setting
=================

No bell output............ "set/nobell"
No echo output............ "set/noecho"
14 lines per page......... "set/page 14"

When using DX-spider the LOGGERNET information can be send
as local announcements or using the chat function. The
selection of mode is made in file "config\dxspider.txt".

The default mode is to use the chat function. To be able
to use this you must FIRST join the LOGGERNET group by
sending "join loggernet" command to the DX-spider node !

OBSERVE, "join loggernet" command before using LOGGERNET.

-Enter terminal window
-Connect the DX-spider node        C SK3W <ENTER>
-Wait for connection and prompt
-Join the LOGGERNET group join loggernet <ENTER>
-Exit terminal window
-Run the contest
-Enter terminal window
-Exit DX-spider node               bye <ENTER>

If you want to leave this chat group the command is
"leave loggernet".

If you DX-spider node don't support chat/join/leave
commands you need to run LOGGERNET with local announcement.
See text above.

DX-cluster/BBS settings
=======================
LOGGER Net uses converse mode on BBS or DX-Cluster so the
station forming a net must in some way connect to the same
converse node in the packet radio net. Talk to you local
net people how get a converse mode node on the net.

The command to enter the converse mode on FBB BBS node
can be the "C" command and to exit the convers mode
use the ".Q" command.

-Enter terminal window
-Connect the BBS with command C SK0CT <ENTER>
-Wait for connection and BBS prompt
-Enter converse mode                   C        <ENTER>
-Wait for enter information from the node
-Exit terminal window
-Run the contest
-Enter terminal window
-Exit converse mode                    .Q       <ENTER>
-Exit BBS                              BYE      <ENTER>

The command to enter the converse mode on DX-cluster node
can be the "CONFER" command and to exit the convers mode
use the "/EXIT" command.

-Enter terminal window
-Connect the DX-cluster with command   C SK0CT  <ENTER>
-Wait for connection and prompt
-Enter converse mode                   C        <ENTER>
-Wait for enter information from the node
-Exit terminal window
-Run the contest
-Enter terminal window
-Exit converse mode                    /EXIT    <ENTER>
-Exit BBS                              BYE      <ENTER>

Most converse modes on BBS and DX cluster will have a
timeout time of 30/60 minutes. So if you not logging any
QSO and sending chat messages you can be kicked out of the
node. Then just enter it again and try to be more active in
the contest.

DX cluster

Connection to a DX cluster is fine if there is DX
information on bands for you current active contest. If not
it will be off low interest, it is better to connect to a
node with LOGGER Net information, see following chapter.

Functions in LOGGER for DX cluster is to catch DX
information filter it and if of interest, display them for
the operator. The purpose to use LOGGER on a DX cluster is
that you should not see information you don't need.

How to get in touch with you local DX cluster ? This
question is out of scope for this help text. Use the
terminal window and use the TNC commands...

DX Cluster Setup
================
Here you will get a setup menu for the DX cluster function:

up by the CTRL-Z key.

Talk beep
---------
When new talk or chat message arrives you may get a beep if
this setting is YES otherwise no beep.

Save to file
------------
DX spot information and talk/chat message is saved to a
file (in current contest directory) if this setting is YES.

You need to set YES to this setting if you want to use
the DX search function and to retreive previous talk/chat
messages.

View last DX info (CTRL-Z)
==========================
When DX information have been viewed on screen it will go
away after a fixed time (see above). To review it use this
and it will be shown again.

Search DX info (CTRL-F9)
========================
All DX information from DX cluster are saved in file for
all used bands in contest. Via this function you will be
able to search this file for call or part of call and get
a list of the information for this hits in file.

Press SHIFT-CTRL-F9 if you don't want too include CALL
information in the search process.

To use this function you need to set "save to file" to YES.

Selecting a line in the list and pressing ENTER will move
call/frequency information from this DX spot into current
QSO. It will also do a call lookup in you callfile and
display matching information. If you use station control
you may after the search then set the stations frequency
via ALT-2/7.

Send DX info (CTRL-F10)
=======================
You is an easy way to send a DX spot to the DX cluster via
this function. You will get a send box as follow with call
and band information taken from current QSO line,

    If NO frequecy or antenna direction in log-entry
    Call........ SK7MW
    Fq.......... 144000.0
    Msg......... JO89>JO65 530km/216deg
    Send DX

    If frequecy and antenna direction in log-entry
    Call........ SK7MW
    Fq.......... 144325.4

    Add MY QRG
    Send DX

If no call is entered for the current QSO the own call will
be in the send box as follows (the "Add MY QRG" will work
but will give a bad message hihi),

    Fq will be set to current used fq if using ICOM-bus.
    Call........ SM0LCB
    Fq.......... 144000.0
    Msg......... CQ fr JO89XI

    Send DX

Press SHIFT-CTRL-F10 if you want too send DX information
without call information from the CALL entry.

The exakt fq will only be inserted if station control is
acivated using ICOM bus (CI). If not the fq will allways
be the low fq of the current band and easy to edit.

- If needed edit call, fq or msg.
- Send with "Send DX".
- Cancel the operation with ESC key.

Send Talk/Chat, list/call search (CRTL-F11)
===========================================
When you want to send a talk to a station you will normally
first enter the callsign at the current QSO and press
CRTL-F11. You will then get a talk-window and an input line
ther you can enter your message. Send it by pressing the
ENTER key. Stay in this mode as long as you need. For exit
press the ESC key. You may easy return to the talk for
this station by pressing CRTL-F11 when it's call is in
the current QSO. Note that the call must be valid, to be
valid it need to have 3 charaters and at least 1 number.

If the current QSO is empty you will insted get a list of
stations to which you prevoiuslly have send talk to or
recieved talk from. Select the station and use the talk-
windows as described above.

Press SHIFT-CTRL-F11 if you don't want too include CALL
information in the search process (same as CTRL_F11 whith
empty QSO CALL).

If the call in the current QSO is not a valid call (see
above) this call-part will be used to search the list
of calls. This redused list will be viewed to you for
selection to open the talk-window.

You can use this function to send messages to a chat group
if you have added it according to the "Chat group setup"
function (see below). When you get a list the possible chat
groups will be listed first in the list.

Chat group setup
================
Go here if you want to edit/add/delete the chat groups
LOGGER will monitor and display in talk/chat window. You
also need to add chat group here if you want to send chat
via LOGGER CTRL-F11/F12 function, see above.

This with chat is currently only working with DX-spider
nodes and after adding a new chat group you also must tell
the DX-spider node that you want to be a part of the group.
Add a chat group with the command "join <group name>".
Leave a chat group with the command "leave <group name>".

The chat groups will be save in a file and restored next
time you start LOGGER (INTERNAL\CHATGRP.TXT).

Information labels
==================
On the line just below the QSO logging window on the screen
to program will show information about incoming data from
the DX cluster.

    DX-INFO! Indicates that you just received DX
                information on a separate window.

    DX-TALK! Indicates that someone has sent you a talk
                command. Please open the terminal window to
                see the information and send answer back if
                needed.

Settings in BBS/DX-cluster/DX-spider
====================================
Set the number of lines for each page. The the LOGGER
terminal have 14 lines so use a command like,

DX-spider  : set/page 14

If you get echo of you input you can disable it by,

DX-spider  : set/noecho

LOGGERNET on DX-spider
======================
There is no convers mode in DX-spider. You can use
local announsment or the join/chat/leave groupe
functions in DX-spider.

The selection is done in "internal\dxspider.txt".
Default is the use of chat group LOGGERNET.
So you need to join this group before using LOGGERNET.

Send command "join loggernet" to the DX-spider node!

CI bus setup

From LOGGER version 1.17 you can control an ICOM radio
connected to LOGGER. There is also support to control
antenna rotor, transverter controller and CW keyer. The
antenna and transverter controller is build around
PIC16F87x microcontroller. The CW keyer is running as a
Linux server and hopefully in PIC16F87x controller soon.
Information about these controller programs will hopefully
come when it's ready for publication.

To use CI-bus in LOGGER you need a CI-bus interface and
also do some settings in the LOGGER CI-bus configuration
file and also enable CI-bus when starting LOGGER. Hopefully
the following text will help you start CI-bus on LOGGER.

Interface
You need to buy or build an interface between the serial
port (COM1-4) on the computer and the ICOM CI-V bus. There
is a lot of examples how to build this on internet. You can
also buy it from ICOM and other if you don't like to build
it.

When starting LOGGER with ICOM-bus interface you use the
option -CIx:yss. You can then use the ss in this option
to enable power to the interface from the RTS or the DTR
pin in the COM-port.
-To use RTS set an s to R.
-To use DTR set an s to D.
You can set none, one or two of them active for ICOM-bus
interface power

Don't use the the selected COM-port for PTT control or
used as CW-keyer.

Simple interface
----------------

By Bill/G3MCS from www.plicht.de/ekki/civ/index.html.

Using only 2 normal NPN transistors and 2 resistors.
The DTR signal is pullup for the RXD input signal.

You can use RTS, DTR or RTS/DTR to power the interface.
Start then the interface as for example -CIx:yD.

Signal   DE9   DB25
 RTS      7      4  -----
 and/or                 !
 DTR      4     20  ----!
                        !
 RXD      2      2  ----X----C
                             B---47k---X----O ICOM BUS
                             E-----    !
                                  !    !
                             C----!-----
 TXD      3      3  ---10k---B    !
 GND      5      7  ---------E----X---------O ICOM GND

Copy CCI file
-------------
In the directory "config" you will find a file
"example.cci". This file shall be copied to the same name
as your *.stn file in the config directory. If the station
file name is "SM0LCB.STN" the copy exam_ci.cci with
following command,

   C:\LOGGER> copy config\exam_ci.cci config\sm0lcb.cci

Note that the file extension shall be CCI.

Edit CCI file
-------------
When you copy the file to the station name you must edit it
to reflect this station set-up. The file holds some
information how to get CI-V buss running with LOGGER and it
also holds the set-up of addresses etc for radio/rotor. The
set-up of radio can be done as global for all band and
selected set-up for one band. For more information see the
file. For example you can set frequency offset on each band
so you will get correct frequency in LOGGER even if you
using transverter.

Start LOGGER
------------
When you finish the set-up and connected the interface on
selected serialport you are ready to start LOGGER and see
if it works, C:\LOGGER> logger -CIx:y there x shall be 1
when using COM1 and 2=COM, 3=COM3 and 4=COM4. Set y to the
computer number in the range of 0-9 (normally 0). The y
value is important if you want to have more then one LOGGER
program on the same CI-V bus.

Then LOGGER start up and the selected band have a unit
controlled over the CI-V bus you shall see a green status
line in the display.

                                        |

ALT-UP : Elevation rotor go UP (only station A).
ALT-DOWN : Elevation rotor go DOWN (only station A).
Note, select station rotor using ALT-1/6 keys.

ALT-1/6
-------
The following commands can be used for radio control,

  144.300 Enter a complete frequency with a '.' at the MHz
           point. Observe that the offset for current bad
           will be used before the frequency is sent to the
           radio!
  .050 Part of the frequency which always starts with a
           '.' character. The program will the take current
           MHz number from the radio and add the entered as
           part of MHz.
  C< fq > Set radio to CW mode and if percent the entered
           frequency as complete/part.
  S< fq > Set radio to USB mode and if percent the entered
           frequency as complete/part.
  F< fq > Set radio to FM mode and if percent the entered
           frequency as complete/part.

The following commands can be used for rotor control

 <deg> Mover azimute rotor to direction
              deg degrees.
 G<deg> Move azimute rotor to direction
              deg degrees.
 OFFSET<deg> Set rotor offset to <deg> direction.
 OFFSETCLR    Clear rotor offset.

 E<deg> Move elevation rotor to direction
              <deg> degrees.
 EG<deg> Move azimute rotor to direction
              deg degrees.
 EOFFSET<deg> Set rotor offset to <deg> direction.
 EOFFSETCLR   Clear rotor offset.

ALT-2/7
-------
If CI-BUS is used the display will be uppdated according
to the band of the selected QSO.

If the current selected QSOhas valid frequency (set when
logging the QSO or selecting a beacon from beacon list)
this frequency will be sent to the selected receiver also
and the modulation type.

If the selected QSO has a valid locator is will be used to
move the rotor to this direction. The rotor will not be
commanded if the QSO is logged as an aurora QSO.

ALT-3/8
-------
Using the CW/USB offset in the CCI-file the program will
move frequency and change mode, the ICOM-706 don't use
USB for CW.

To control a station press ALT-1 for station A and ALT-3
for station B. When there is a window to write control
command to station (radio, rotor...).

Multi operator

Multi operator mode Observe, the multi operator mode in
LOGGER today is a pre-version and is not fully tested and
can therefore have bugs and functionally problems.

The multi operator mode use a common log file which is
accessible for all LOGGER station using the NetBEUI file
share in windows operation system, see figure below.
Therefore you need to set-up network functions on all
station to be able to use this function. For more
information about this see the Windows system.

 Station A                  Station B       Station C
----------                 -----------     -----------
!c:\share!                 !  Map L: !     ! Map M:  !
----------                 -----------     -----------
     !    Network (NetBEIU)     !               !
   ------------------------------------------------

When the network is up running the main station (in the
figure station A) shall share a directory/drive to be used
by the other stations. The other stations shall connect to
this share by mapping it to a local drive. For more
information about this see the Windows system.

Needed file shares/mapping and how to start LOGGER:

  Station A Set-up file share of the directory "C:\SHARE".
             Starting LOGGER using this directory like,
             c:\logger> logger -fc:\share
  Station B Map drive ex "L:" to file share "C:\SHARE" on
             station A. Starting LOGGER using this drive
             like,
             c:\logger> logger -fL:
  Station C Map drive ex "M:" to file share "C:\SHARE" on
             station A. Starting LOGGER using this drive
             like,
             c:\logger> logger -fM:

For each station you must also configure LOGGER to use the
same contest, station and address information. The multi
operator mode doesn't help you with this normal LOGGER
set-up.

Technical LOGGER will log all QSO in a common file on the
file share named according to the contest date example
"20021031.log". All LOGGER station will check for updates
in this file. LOGGER will also updates its normal
"logger.log" file in the contest directory. So if you after
the contest want tocheck the contest "offline" from the
network just start LOGGER as normal and select the wanted
contest. Note that any updates of the log during "offline"
will not be reflected to the shared file !

This multi operator mode over shared file is a feature not
fully verified so there my be situations the it will fail.
Also multi operation in contest with QSO number can give
problems if operators try log on same band and using same
QSO-number.

Notes regarding multi operator mode
===================================

- Note that the stations B and C in figure above can get
  "hunged" if the network is not reliable. This because
  LOGGER will "hang" during its regular check of the
  shared file. Therefore the main operator station shall
  always be the station how share out the file!
- Note that the OFFLINE function is disabled then LOGGER
  is started the multi operator mode.

Check this BEFORE starting the contest
======================================

- All stations use the same setting in template files !
- All stations use the same time setting !
- All stations have the correct time set !
- If using loggerTelnet program use then the correct
  setting of the used multi-op directory, shall be the
  same used when stating LOGGER with the -f option.
  See connect dialog for the windows program
  and the -f option for the Linux program.
